The BOND

Located in a bustling suburban business park approximately 30km from Sydney, The Bond is Norwest’s latest next-generation workplace where world-leading wellness initiatives re-define the traditional workplace setting. This innovative six-story, timber-framed office building is a testament to the future of sustainable office design, seamlessly blending striking architecture with the natural environment.

The project aimed to demonstrate the viability of sustainable workplace buildings in suburban areas, and durlum played a crucial role in achieving this vision. durlum provided 240 different types of rectangular metal panels, totaling 565 individual pieces, which were customised to fit the various angles within the building’s corridors. These panels, ranging from 1315mm to 2233mm in length, were part of durlum’s acoustically effective S4 hook system, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Given the unique timber structure and floor-to-ceiling glazing in the hallways, a standard suspension system was not feasible. Instead, a fully engineered seismic design, including cable wires and customised carrier rails, was implemented to navigate the tight space between services and ceiling height. This approach maintained the building’s openness and maximised the sense of space, particularly in the hallways where the unique timber construction and open ceilings are featured.

The Bond stands as proof that sustainable, ultra-modern, and vibrant architecture is not only viable but is the future of office design.
